一个句子的语法
新概念英语3,第5课,前面一句是'Hundreds of steps lead to the high wall which surrounds the president's palace.'等到最后一句变成了
'...while counting the 1084 steps leading to the fifteen-foot wall
which surrounded the president's palace.'
请问为什么到后面变成了LEAD变成了LEADING,surround变成了surrounded?
尤其是最后的SURROUNDED很不明白.用SURROUNDS不行吗?

which surrounded the president's palace 这个是个过去时.过去式比较好理解啦,那个故事中的事情本来都是过去了.
还有surrond是及物动词哦,围绕某个物体：surrond sth/sth be surrouded by
再说两个lead
Hundreds of steps lead to the high wall 这里的lead做谓语 lead to "通向"
while counting the 1084 steps leading to the fifteen-foot wall 这里的leading to the fifteen-foot wall 是现在分词短语做定语修饰那个steps.
