福山把资本主义和共产主义看成绝对对立的两级,他书中的大部分观点都将资本主义的优越性和共产主义的不可实现性对比.事实上,中国改革开放的最大特点之一就是在社会主义的制度下引入了资本主义的自由竞争的市场经济体制.正如中国的改革开放总设计师邓小平所说,“社与资,公与私,计划与市场,不能截然对立.资本主义需要公有制,社会主义也离不开私有制.”资本主义没有公有制的驾驭,可能真的如福山所言,会滑向“最后的人”,社会主义缺乏私有制的调剂,则不免堕入集权主义的窠臼,过去的30年,中国经济成长的根本保证便是灵活运用了市场的自动调节和政府的宏观调整政策,所以中国的社会主义市场经济体制的成功是对福山观点最好的驳斥.

Fushan views capitalism as the total opposite of the communism.Most of his views in his book compares the unachieveability of the communism and the advantages of capitalism.In fact,the main characterisitics of the opening of China is bringing the idea of free market from capitalism into the society of communism.Like the engineer of the opening Ding Xiaoping said,socialism and capitalism,pulic and private,plan and market cannot stand completely the opposite.Capitalism needs publics,and socialism needs pricates as well.Capitalism,without rluing by the public,could be slipping to what Fushan called the last man and socialism,without enhancements from the privates,would fall into corruption.
In the past 30 years,the basic reason for China's economic success was based on the acute use of the self-conditioning of the market and the macro adjustments of the government.Hence,the success of China's market policy under the socialism society is the best arguement against Fushan's view.
