1. 状语从句分类:
  While I was wondering what to do, our schoolmaster came by. (时间状语从句)
  Where there is fire, there is smoke. (地点状语从句)
  Now that everybody is here, let’s begin our meeting. (原因状语从句)
  I’ll speak slowly so that you can understand me. (目的状语从句)
  It is such a wonderful story that I’ll never forget it. (结果状语从句)
  As long as you don’t lose heart, you’ll succeed in the end. (条件状语从句)
  Try as the young man might, he could not find a job. (让步状语从句)
  The old lady treats the boy as if he were her own son. (方式状语从句)
  He is taller than I am. (比较状语从句)
2. 时间状语从句
  A. when表示某一具体时间
    When I stayed in London, I learned a few words of English.
  B. whenever指的是在任何一个不具体的时间
    Whenever I feel like doing exercise, I lie down until the feeling passes.
  C. while引导的动作一般是持续性的
    While I was watching TV, my mother was cooking.
  D. as强调主句和从句的动作同时发生,常译作“一边……一边……”.
    He swung his stick in the air as he walked.
  E. when可以表示突然性的动作
    I was walking in the street when I caught sight of an old friend.
  F. while可以表示对比及让步
    I like coffee while he enjoys tea.
    While we sometimes disagree, we remain good friends.
  G. before的三个句型
    It will be years before we meet again.
    我们要过几年才能再见面.(强调时间较长)
    It won’t be long before we meet again.
    过不了多久我们就会再见面的.(强调时间较短)
    He ran away before I could say a word.
    我还没来得及说话,他就跑了.
  H. since的两个句型
    since后如果是终止性动词的过去式,则时间的起点应从该动作发生时算起.
    since后如果是延续性动词的过去式,则时间的起点应从该动作发生结束时算起.
    I haven’t seen him since he left.
    自从他离开后,我就没见过他.
    It is two years since he lived here.
    他不住在这里有两年了.
  I. 在肯定句中until搭配延续动词,在否定句中搭配瞬间动词
    The shop stays open until 11.
    I won’t leave until you come back.
3. 地点状语从句
  He found the book where he had lost it.
  You are free to go wherever you like.
4. 原因状语从句
  A. because用来回答why 的问题,语气最强
    I came back late yesterday because I was on duty.
  B. as, since, now that表示已知的理由
    Since everyone is here, let’s begin our meeting.
  C. for可以表示推断,必须放在主句后
    He must be asleep, for there is no light on.
5. 目的状语从句
  目的状语从句中常用情态动词may (might), can (could) 等,从句往往放在主句之后
  I shall write down your telephone number so that I may not forget it.
  I am saving money in order that I can buy a house.
6. 结果状语从句
  A. such + (a/an) + (adj.) + n. + that
    It is such a big hall that it can hold 3000 people.
    They are such good students that the teacher likes them.
    It was such nice weather that we had a picnic.
  B. so + adj./adv. + that
    He ran so fast that we couldn’t catch him.
  C. so + adj. + a/an + n. + that
    It is so interesting a novel that we all want to read it.
  D. so + many/much/few/little + n. + that
    (数量词前要用so修饰)
    He gave us so much homework that it was impossible to finish it.
  E. We turned up the radio, so that everyone heard the news.
    (结果状语从句一般不使用情态动词)
7. 方式状语从句
  A. as, like
    No one can sing the song as she does.
    No one can sing the song like her.
    (informal) No one can sing the song like she does.
  B. as if/though
    She treats her sister as though she were a stranger.
    It looks as though everyone has gone home.
8. 让步状语从句
  1. though, although
  不能与but连用,但可以与yet或still连用.though/although意义相同,用法基本一样, 前者通俗,口语化,后者正式,多放主句的前面.
  Although/Though he was over sixty, (yet) he began to learn French.
  2. as引出的状语从句多用于书面语,它比用though或although引导的从句语气强,更有表现力,从句常放在句首,语序部分倒装.
  Child as he is, he knows a lot.
  =Although he is a child, he knows a lot.
  (名词前不能有冠词)
  Try as he did, he failed.
  =Although he tried, he failed.
