再答： Meaning： 1 .(1): a doctrine that the interests of the individual are or ought to be ethically paramount ; also : conduct guided by such a doctrine (2): the conception that all values, rights, and duties originate in individuals b: a theory maintaining the political and economic independence of the individual and stressing individual initiative, action, and interests ; also : conduct or practice guided by such a theory. 2.The tendency for a person to act without reference to others, particularly in matters of style, fashion or mode of thought. A belief system that places great importance on the ability of people to act as individuals. The basic moral premise that only individuals can act, benefit and suffer. The opposite of collectivism, which holds that abstract groups or transcendent entities can act, benefit or suffer, necessitating an abstract structure (such as the state) to support these groups or entities. History： The connection to the Renaissance is that during the Renaissance, individualism was a noteworthy concept which emerged during the era. It stressed personality, uniqueness, genius, and full development of one’s capabilities and talents. Before this idea materialized, recognition of remarkable individuals of the Dark Ages was limited strongly due to the fact that Christian humility discouraged self-absorption. However, from the Renaissance on, individualism remains as a dominating theme in Western civilization.
