Mark and Ability Mass media, professional entities, schools are discussing over marks and ability of students who are also struggling to make clear the connection between them. For the past 20 years or so, China adopted the test-oriented education system which exerted its emphasis on score,and made out different levels based on marks as yardstick for individual student. In this connection, those who can got a higher score would be considered smarter and more capable than others. With the development of the society and the economy, especially upon entry of the new century,the world is more diversified and developed,students are given more ways to show their ability, for example, those students good at music will be given chances to show themselves and earn lots of money at a young age, and those who good at computer programming will have chances to get higher level of education and name here just a few. Marks can sometimes reflect your real ability but only sometimes, the world is more competitive and there are many things of essential importance to us,we want high score based on happiness, creative thinking other than recital and cramming. Quality-oriented education featuring for stimulation,creativity and experiencing has presented the answer for us. High mark is not necessarily means good ability,while capable students are capable in their own ways. MARKS AND ABILITY In the modern society, many students pay all attentions to their marks. Because a student who has a good mark will be respected?for common public and may have a bright future. Have you ever heard from some old men said, "if you don't study hard now, you will regret in the soon future or an idle youth, a needy age.”First reason for notice mark comes from the tradition of society. Most parents and teachers judge students by their marks. If a student got a high grade very often, he would be admitted that he is a good student and have pour morality. High marks mean honor. Therefore, students study hard to get high marks in order to satisfy their parents and please their teachers. Second reason can be found in system of education. All educational officers and educationists are instilling a view, high marks equal good student and future, into the common public about several years ago. Marks decide a student's fate. As a result, the students only want to gain high marks in their studies. In their points of view, marks are the most important thing. Of course, some students play more attention to their ability, because they believe that ability can accompany them to end of their lives. Everyone will graduate from school someday and step into society, so they have to learn some ability?to communicate with other people, to deal with difficulties and to face the sharp competition.?All these should be developed in school. Although it is not everything?can learn in school, they may still ask teachers and classmates until they realize it. Therefore, they consider?the ability the most important. In my perspective, we should not go to extremes. For one thing, we should not just pursue marks and neglect ability; for another, we should not concentrate on ability and ignore marks. Both marks and ability are crucial students.
