Ion exchange method is simpler and more feasible for industrial
applications as it involves fewer steps and the preparation
parameters are more easily controlled.The hydroxylation of
benzene and phenol with H2O2 was performed using various ionexchanged
Y zeolites.The catalystsdemonstrate a range of activities
depending on the metal centre in the catalyst and not on the H2O2
decomposition ability of the catalyst following the order,
Cu > Cr > Ni > Fe = Zn > V > Bi,for hydroxylation of benzene
and V > Cr = Ni > Fe > Zn > Cu > Bi,for hydroxylation of phenol.
OV–Y catalyst shows an excellent selectivity to CAT with CAT:HQ
molar ratio >10.
