Suddenly he looked up and saw Bacchus standing beside him.
"Don't you like your gift now?"asked the old man.
"Pleasa take it away ,Bacchus,"replied the king."Give me back my daughter.i promised that I wouldn't be a miser any more.I'll use my gold to help other people."
"Very well!"said Bacchus."You have learned your lesson.Go and wash in the river.You willlose the gift of the golden touch.Everything that you touch with water from the river willnot be goldany longer."
"Oh thank you,"said King Midas,and he ran quickly to bathe inin the river.He rushed back into the palace and touched the golden statue and there was his daughter alive and vases and plants and flowers.All these things changed back again.They were no longer made of gold.King Midas was able to eat and drink again.He was very happy.
The king kept his promise to Bacchus and remembered the lesson he had learned.He was never greedy for gold again.He gave away most of it to make his people happy.
