The reading passage defines the definition of the unintended consequences.It means that actions of individuals,groups,or governments have effects that are unexpected.They are not considered by the person or persons who make the action.And then,the reading passage provides am example of a decision made by a city council.The city council wants to ban cars from the Main Street and this decision has a positive and negative effects.The positive effect is that improve the citizens health,and the negative effect is that the businesses of the Main Street declines because the loss of customers.Both of these effects are not intended by the city council.
The listening passage provides a further example of this concept.The example is about the unexpected consequences of a decision made by a government.The government raised taxes in order to increase the revenue.Because of the higher taxes,the citizens had less money to spend and bought fewer goods.As a result,the companies sold fewer goods and earned less money so that they had to dismiss some workers.The workers who had been dismissed paid no taxes because they didn’t have jobs.These are unintended consequences.
